Constant package-masturabation and just fiddling with shit is fine, but the problem with FreeBSD is that you fire-and-forget. Get it installed and carry on with life.If there's problems, you can fix it because it's all cut and dried. The only time FreeBSD debugging gets bad is if you put world+dog in and they start fighting.FreeBSD is generally like a lathe; a tool to get a certain thing done within reasonable parameters, go outside those parameters and you're starting to get into a roll-your-own thing.Linux is like an Erector set. Sure, you can build neat things and sometimes beautifully functional things, but there are better tools which are designed to do the task at hand with less fiddling.

The installer is, yes, a bit antedeluvian… but it works, has worked, and will keep working.

The problem is that Linux garners people who are system-onanists.
